Our Story

How it all started...

  • Cottonwood began with a fellowship meeting of about 40 close friends in a private home in June 2002.  After this pilot meeting a decision was made to pursue establishing a new Church in Alamogordo.
  • Then on July 10, 2002…Cottonwood began with an initial gathering service conducted in the foyer of the First National Bank.  The New Church was now a go!
  • The following Sunday, arrangements were made to begin regular Sunday Services at the Alamogordo Women’s Club.

Expanding the vision...

In November of 2004, Cottonwood merged with the Abundant Life Church at our present address on Highway 54/70.  It was a nice facility but lacked the room necessary for two church congregation merging.
The need for more space led to a fund-raising activity that ultimately paid for a 4,400 square foot expansion of the Newly merged churches.  The expansion was paid for by the congregation and dedicated in the Spring of 2005.

From 2005 until 2015, the founding and first Cottonwood Christian Fellowship Senior Pastor, ROBERT G. SMITH,
diligently led the church in spiritual grow, community involvement and worldwide missions.  Average weekly attendances were 220.  Pastor Smith’s leadership was vital in establishing a prosperous and successful Non-Denomination Church in Alamogordo.
Pastor Smith retired from ministry in December 2015 and a new senior pastor was hired.  We know him as Pastor Timothy Paul Green, and he began his service to Cottonwood on January 17, 2016.
Since Pastor Green’s arrival he has inspired greater grow through dynamic preaching and teaching of the Word of God.  His spirit led efforts have brought our average attendance to near 250 members.  He also helped Cottonwood capture the vision for building this new church facility in the very new future.

Where we are headed...

Cottonwood is now looking towards the future, with the purchase of our new building located at 3453 Las Palomas Alamogordo, NM, in January of 2025. This new building will give us the space to more than double our service size. With the plans to add a day care to serve the community.

Pastor Green's heart is to grow the kingdom of God, serve the community in the best way, making disciples and celebrating Christ.
